Crypto themes for 2022: Which crypto themes will play out in 2022? Here are some hints

New Delhi: 2021 has been a great year for crypto assets as this modern investment category has become mainstream. Now, as the next year begins, investors are trying to understand what topics they can ride to get the most out of investing in cryptocurrency.

Industry experts believe that 2022 is likely to be the year of the nomination in the crypto space as relevant tokens, utility and sound fundamentals will attract investors more.

In the space of the digital universe, 2021 was marked by the emergence of non-fungible tokens (NFTs), meme coins, and initial coin offerings (ICOs). There was so much buzz around the Metaverse at the end of 2021 that Facebook changed its name to “Meta” and digitizing the many aspects became a top-notch fad.

Ishan Arora, partner at Tykhe Block Venture, a cryptocurrency hedge fund, said some of the topics to watch out for in 2022 are Metaverse, Gaming and NFT. Symbols around these attributes began to gain popularity at the end of 2021.

Another major theme that has emerged this year is the potential ‘Ethereum Killers’, with several tokens including Solana, Cardano and Polkadot offering huge returns despite failing to get rid of the second largest cryptocurrency.

According to the Mavericks Blockchain, Ethereum has real-world utility. They believe that the blockchain supports smart contracts that can be used in a wide variety of applications.

Raj A Kapoor, founder of the India Blockchain Alliance, who appears to be very bullish on Ethereum, said it could overtake Bitcoin as the most valuable cryptocurrency sometime in 2022.

“Metavese will be another very powerful feature due to the entry of traditional tech giants into it,” he said. “Facebook’s name change, followed by a strong rise in crypto games would be noteworthy events.”

Kapoor said that one of the main bear cases against cryptocurrency is its failure to accept it as a viable alternative to traditional currencies. He added, “However, in 2022, we will see more and more companies start accepting cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin as legal tender; the scalability and value of cryptocurrencies will likely increase.”

El Salvador, a small South American country, will make Bitcoin legal in 2021. Market experts believe that many other countries will either follow suit or create their own digital currencies.

There is no doubt that coins of no interest or of limited interest are poised to lose their magic. Experts said one such piece is meme coins, which are only fun oriented but those with some intrinsic value are poised to stay in the field for a long time.

Moreover, investors should monitor decentralized finance (DeFi) projects, which have a working product and revenue with a catalyst, they added.

According to Kapoor,, a decentralized machine learning platform for applications such as asset trading, could be the black horse of the year.

“Last but not least, Layer 2 will be the subject of Zk rollups for projects that will roll out the various L2’s on ETH,” said Tykhe’s Arora. “You can see more activity happening on L2’s on Eth than other L1 chains like Avax and Solana.”
