Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky revealed that the most important feature that users will be asking for in 2022 is paying for reservations with cryptocurrency.
Over the weekend, Chesky. chirp: “If Airbnb could launch anything in 2022, what would it be?”
Two days later, he published a list of the six best suggestions out of the nearly 4,000 received.
He said the first on his list was crypto payments. This was followed by clear pricing, a guest loyalty program, updated cleaning fees, more long-term stays and discounts, and better customer service.
“Already working on most, will look at others now!” He said.
One user made a coding suggestion He said Some countries block international payments, hence its reliance on digital assets. Cesky, who was actively responding to some of the tweets, replied: “We look forward to it.”
According to the CEO, the online travel and reservation company has seen a $336 billion payment volume since 2013. Airbnb currently accepts Visa, MasterCard, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and PayPal as payment methods.
If Airbnb incorporates the popular proposal, it will join the ranks of Tesla and AMC, among others, in accepting cryptocurrency as payment.
This isn’t the first time Chesky has talked about cryptography.
In September 2021, he said that crypto payments to Fox Business have been a constant demand. He also mentioned his relationship with Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong in the same interview. Armstrong, who now runs the largest crypto exchange in the United States, used to be Airbnb’s CTO.
Airbnb states in its prospectus that encryption is a critical component of its success, as well as new authentication technologies, such as biometrics, distributed ledger and blockchain technologies, artificial intelligence, virtual and augmented reality, and cloud technologies.
Airbnb went public in December 2020 in one of the most highly anticipated initial public offerings at the time.
